WIP bars fixed

Percent bar

I had been having trouble getting my WIP progress bars to show up. I’ve tried several different codes but they all made my sidebar wonky.

Jennifer over at Knitting Sutra recently posted on her new progress bars. They were thanks to Yarn Tomato. I just got them myself.

Yarn Tomato had the brilliant idea to cut out the code altogether. Instead she created little images of progress bars. She even provides the images to fellow crafters. Sweet! Thanks Yarn Tomato!

Ravelry

Ravelry

I got my invite to Ravelry a few weeks ago. You can find me there by searching for Twilight. I put up a few projects but I’m mostly using Ravelry to look at what everyone else is knitting. There are so many things I want to knit!

Reseaming

I finished my sweater and tried it on. While it technically fits the sleeves were a bit tight and the seam looked poofy. For awhile I debated leaving it as is-after all it did fit. But I’m taking out the seams now. The tight sleeves irked me so I decided to redo them. I’m reseaming with a one stitch seam allowance now and the seams are turning out much better. One sleeve is finished and it fits much better. In the picture below the top seam is the old version and the bottom seam is the new version.

I’ve been practicing using the macro feature on my camera and got this cute picture of Prana.

This is actually a weed I need to rip up since its leaves have little prickles all over them. But the flowers are pretty.

Onto the sleeve!

I finished the left side of the Aran sweater and have started the right side. It’s going faster now since I’m familiar with the pattern. I’m up to the sleeve now!

The end is in site and I’m excited. Most of my time has spent on the sweater so I haven’t gotten far on the Knitty Knucks. Working the pattern has been fun so far.

Spring has sprung around these parts and many desert flowers are in bloom. The beauty of the Southwest sometimes takes my breath away. First here’s a prickly pear cactus flower with a cicada shell nearby.

I’m not sure what these flowers are called but they’re pretty.

Today I put in my contacts. It’s been awhile since I’ve worn them and it’s so nice to go without glasses again.

Socks and Cactus Flowers

My bamboo socks are done! The second socks that I used the new metal needles turned out ever so slightly smaller than the first sock. They both fit though so I’m pleased. Thebes took this action shot of me wearing them.

There’s several wild cactus around and today one of the barrel cactus bloomed.

Barrel cactus bloom

I find cactus intresting. They are so unapproachable yet so beautiful and delicate looking. Cactus, especially a barrel cactus, remind me of my mother. My mother grew them. One of my strongest memories of her is buying her a baby barrel cactus for Christmas when I was in the first grade. She was happy with it and through the years it grew to an impressive size.

When I moved out at 18 the barrel cactus was still there. Fully grown now it was a pretty cool looking plant. Even it’s prickles were big. Sometimes I think my mother is like a cactus. She put out all these defenses so I couldn’t get close to her; she didn’t want me to get close. But deep down I think she was vulnerable and delicate just like the cactus she raised.

She disowned me when I was 18. Crying, begging and pleading on my part has not changed her mind. She doesn’t want a relationship with me so we don’t have one. I tell my friends with children to never disown them. Even if they are diametrically opposed they should keep a relationship going. As much as my mother and I didn’t get along sometimes I wish I could call her and say hello just to tell her how I’m doing. I’m over 30 and her cold voice on the phone when I call my dad still makes me feel 12 and rejected.

Whew! I didn’t mean this post to turn that way. A little processing on my part by way of blogging I think. Really I’m very happy with the way the socks turned out. And despite some sad memories the cactus flowers are still pretty.

Lacework and a Lunar Eclipse

After a long stretch of stockinette I’ve moved into the lace part of my stash skirt. My progress so far:

Prana attempted chewing on my needles after I took this pic. What a cutie. The lace is simply a yarnover and k2tog over and over. I’m going to keep working in lace until my stash yarn is used up.

I placed the lace over a white sheet of paper in hopes you can see the pattern better.

The other night Thebes and I saw a partial lunar eclipse. I love both solar and lunar eclipses; they’re so magical.

New Craft Bag

Some friends recently went to Peru on vacation. They brought me back a woven bag as a gift. It’s great and will hold lots of yarn and fabric.

Peru bag

The weaving design is pretty cool. A close up:

Prana likes it too.

Speaking of the furball, Thebes took this hilarious picture of him today.

Winter Wonderland

Thought I’d post some winter pictures since we’ve had so much snow. These are at our old place; we moved last month.

My two cuties check out the snow.

We got over 10 inches. It made for a gorgeous view.

Prana doesn’t much like snow. He stayed on the path and came in after a short while.
