Noro Blossom sweater

This month I finished my latest Noro sweater. This is the Eloise sweater from the Noro Knits book.

Noro Blossom sweater

This pattern was a delight to knit. Nice and easy and the cut flatters the body. Noro Blossom is a discontinued Noro yarn. I managed to score some at a yarn sale a few years back.

I knit the extra small size. That was a surprise. The pattern was easy to follow. I didn’t tweak it at all.

The colors are reminiscent of the ’80s. The yarn really softens up after blocking.

These buttons are recycled from the Taos free pile.

For some reason I can’t find any posts about this sweater. And I was positive I blogged about it! I have progress pics on my computer but can’t find any here. Did I really forget to write about it? Anyway, here’s Granola helping me seam it together:

Sieben came along for the photo shoot.

Bone progress

I’ve been working on my skeleton. I’m purposely keeping the color scheme random. Part of the piece’s theme is the play between chaos and order. One can find patterns in chaos and order in randomness. I want people to see both in this piece. The stripes also reference the patterns in DNA.

Arm bones are done.

Just One More Row

As are the leg bones. I’m saving fingers and toes for later.

Just One More Row

The top of the leg bones had to be frogged because the yarn was so bulky they didn’t fit into the hip bones.

I’m working on the rib cage now.

Just One More Row

Seaming up the ribs is tricky because the space is so tight. It feels like my progress is slow but I keep plugging away at them.

Just One More Row

The piece also plays with seriousness and whimsical. Because after all it’s a knitted skeleton!

Thebes and I hung out with our friends M&C the other day. Sieben is friends with their dog so he had a fun doggie play day.

Blanket blocking

The recent cold weather inspired me to block Thebes’ Noro squares. Putting kitteh goodness into my knitwear is so important that Prana took a nap on the damp squares.

I’ve finished seaming the rows between the squares and am now working on the border. It will be done soon!

Before the snow we had one last week of gorgeous weather. Sieben enjoyed the outside warmth.

Hat decorating

This fall has been so busy! I feel like I have a ton of stuff to blog about. In August Abbey and I went down to Albuquerque for a girls’ trip. We stayed with our friend Polli who gave me a straw hat. I decided to decorate it.

I-cord branch on hat

This is an I-cord branch that is inspired by Abbey’s flower/vine hat. It’s done now but I need to take pics still.

Prana and Sieben do hang out but it’s hard to get them both to sit still for a picture. Here’s one of them hunting lizards together:

Noro blanket progress

I’ve finished with the Noro portion of Thebes’ blanket.

Noro blanket

This Noro colorway is awesome. I’ve made eight squares.

Next up I’ll block the squares.

Then I’ll make the borders out of Lamb’s Pride wool.

Here’s Sieben on a recent walk:

He loves going on walks with me.

Washing wool

My friend Laura was so nice and let me use her bathtub to wash my latest wool fleece.

white wool fleece

Latest as in, I bought it two years ago. Lazy hippie! But hey, at least I’m finally getting to it. I’m planning on spinning it up first and then dyeing it afterward.

While the fleece soaked I mended a pair of pants for Laura. Then I attached some new clasps on my Arwen sweater.

I bought these pretty clasps on Etsy. Proper pics to come soon.

I brought Sieben along because he gets along with Laura’s dogs, especially her dog Bobo.

He had a fun time and so did I.

Sock progress

I’ve gotten some progress on Thebes’ kilt hose.

blue kilt hose

Mostly I’ve been working on The Portal so I haven’t been knitting much. This sock makes for great car knitting though.

Monsoon season has started and we’ve been getting downpours. Sieben and I took a walk in the forest when the rain let up.

He was a happy boy!

Remember the Sugar Lotus Blossom tank that I started in May?

Here’s where I’m at now:

Sugar Lotus Blossom tank

This project has been kicking my ass. I got one repeat into the medium size and then realized it was too big. So I frogged and started the small size. Then I wasn’t paying attention to the lace chart and had to frog back some. I’m still on the first repeat.

The lace chart is not terribly hard but the repeat moves slightly over on some rounds. Very confusing-to me at least.

And here’s a cute picture of Sieben as a puppy.

Sieben puppy

This was taken in the fall of 2007. He was such a cute puppy.

Fun mending

I’ve been working on my mending pile. Normally it’s not that thrilling. But sometimes it’s fun.

Sieben teddy bear

I got this teddy bear for Sieben from the free pile. He chewed the nose off so I patched it up.

Sieben was happy to get his teddy back.

Though normally he looks like this while playing:

Dog Bed

I finished Sieben’s dog bed. The crochet and knit versions didn’t work but the sewn one turned out great.

To challenge myself I decided to use as much recycled materials as I could. Everything but the the sewing thread is recycled.

I cut up sweatshirts for the top.

Sieben dog bed

Jeans were used for the bottom and sides.

Scraps of linen and muslin fabric were used for the pillow lining. I wanted to make the outer layer washable so the stuffing needed to be made into a pillow.

Sieben dog bed

Old pillows are great to reuse for stuffing. I figured Sieben would like it if his doggie bed smelled like his humans. Prana helped out.

Sieben dog bed

The pillows weren’t big enough for the bed. I pulled them apart to puff them up.

To prevent the stuffing from shifting I sewed in some dimples. This was the hardest part.

The stuffed pillow:

All done. It’s nice and thick and very comfy.

I put a zipper on one end to easily take off the cover for washing.

How does Sieben like it? Very much!
