Arte de Descartes reception

The Arte de Descartes opening reception was so much fun! Outside the gallery was this sculpture by Michael Neu:

Recycled Art Show

It’s called Latilla Arch. Holes were drilled into each piece of wood. A long piece of bent rebar hold them all together.

This colorful sculpture by Ren Geertsen is called Maniacal and is made out of plastic lids and straws.

This is Pablo Flores and his artwork Green Cyberbug is over his shoulder.

I love that green ladybug!

I also met Leroy Fresquez and chatted about collecting art supplies.

Recycled Art Show

His piece is called Recycled Assembly.

And who do we have here? Me baby!

Recycled Art Show

I’m so excited that I got into the show.

These little metal people are so cute.

Recycled Art Show

The artist is Joel Morse Lage and they are called Juice Jitterbug.

My friend Michael got into the show.

Recycled Art Show

Her piece is called Orange Betty. It’s made out of straw bale ties. Very cool!

Terrie Mangat’s piece Saint Michael Scrap Bag was in the show.

Recycled Art Show

She was in this year’s Beyond The Fringe as well.

The Glam Trash Fashion Show went on during the show. I’ve participated twice before and it’s so much fun. Here’s two of my favorite outfits.

Maybe I’ll make something for next year. I feel so inspired.

Opening reception is Saturday August 27 4-8pm
Stables Gallery

The Glam Trash Fashion Show starts at 6pm. I didn’t make anything for that this year but I have in the past. It’s such a fun show. The Taos News wrote about this year’s show in the Tempo section-story here.

I’m super excited that Pearl gets to be in another art show!

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta

In May Abbey and I went to the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta.

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta

This was an amazing show! There was so much to see. Abbey and I ran around like crazy women gushing over all the beautiful art.

Fiber artist Cat Brysch created this stunning multi-media piece called Tierra Persona:

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to write down all the artists’ names. There was such great art there! This underwater piece is awesome:

A very creative use of buttons:

The quilts were mind blowing and it was hard to just pick a few pics to post.

This woman spun yarn to put into her artwork just like me. I liked her work alot.

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta

And now for the highlight of the show. I entered my artwork Lunar Life into the show. Abbey and I walked over to the Embroidery section and there was my work up on the wall. But it got better-so much better:

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta

I won second place! I was so happy (and teary)! I think I walked about a foot off the ground for the rest of the show.

A little felt Buddha:

There was a booth with felt journal covers-so lovely.

A recycled felt flower. I want to make one now.

Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta

What a wonderful, inspiring fiesta. It happens every two years and I’ll definitely be back for the next one.

Albuquerque yarn bombing

Last month Abbey and I went to a yarn bombing in Albuquerque. The event was sponsored by the Yarn Shop at Nob Hill. Crafters gathered at the store to prep the bombs.

Flowers were placed on all the pieces as our signature. One woman crocheted a huge flower that I thought made a great hat.

We weren’t the only crafters getting wild that night.

After the prep work we went out to tag Nob Hill. The event happened on a Friday night and the street was buzzing with activity. There were musicians playing some groovy tunes.

We covered light poles, bike poles, bus station handles, trees and more.

This tag was one of Abbey’s favorites:

We got rave reviews. People stopped to look at our work.

Some wanted to take our picture!

The one was one of my faves-

so simple and darling!

We had a great time doing this. The next day all the tags were still there! Yarn bombing rocks! It spreads such joy and makes a normal street pretty. Street art is so inspiring and I’m so happy to be a part of this movement.

Albuquerque Botanical Gardens

Last month Thebes and I went to the Albuquerque Botanical Gardens with Abbey and Daniel.

Thebes brought his 8×10 camera to photograph flowers.

Albuquerque Botanical Gardens

There was a children’s fantasy garden that was pretty fun. At the entrance there was a huge dragon sculpture:

Albuquerque Botanical Gardens

Super groovy!

Here’s me and Abbey posing by a castle wall:

There were many sculptures that made the viewer feel small like this giant flower pot with a huge bee.

Albuquerque Botanical Gardens

Of course there were flowers everywhere. It was lovely!

Albuquerque Botanical Gardens

They were so pretty and smelled so good.

Albuquerque Botanical Gardens

Many of the cactus were in bloom.

Another cactus flower. Do you see the spider?

Lotus flowers are some of my favorite flowers. I even have one tattoo’d on my ankle. See the bullfrog?

Abbey and Daniel being adorable.

So many flowers!

This one was in the Japanese garden area. I don’t know what it is but it’s gorgeous.

Here’s me amongst the flowers:

There was a bonsai show going on at the gardens.

This one was my favorite.

If you’re in Albuquerque when the flowers are in bloom I recommend the Botanical Gardens. They’re wonderful!

Art in Town Hall program

Earlier this year my artwork got featured in the Taos Art in Town Hall program. Artwork is hung in the town hall for three months.

When people walked through the main doors my Green man was there to greet them.

My Lunar Life piece was hung in the hallway to the Mayor’s office.

I attached the moons to plastic canvas to stiffen them, sewed them to ribbon and then hung the ribbons from a branch I found while hiking.

Here’s one of my art tags. I love that it says my art is part of the “Taos art colony on display”.

Birthday celebration

My birthday was last week. To celebrate I bought myself a fruit tart.

Birthday tart

It was delicious and oh so sweet.

To celebrate I decided to go to Ojo Caliente last weekend. Early in the morning Ojo is practically deserted and you can get a pool all to yourself. It was so magical with the steam coming off the pools.

Ojo Caliente

It may be cold but the desert is so beautiful in the winter. This is the view up from the Iron Pool.

Ojo Caliente

But why would I want to go to Ojo so early? The Tibetan Monks were in town to bless the waters.

Tibetan Monks

These Tibetan Monks were from the Drepung Loseling Monastery in Atlanta. You can see official Ojo photos here.

Tibetan Monks

Hearing their chanting was beautiful. And magical too-it was cloudy but during the chanting the sun came out and shone down on them.

Tibetan Monks

In college I worked at the Snow Lion which is a Tibetan restaurant owned by the Dali Lama’s nephew. I learned a lot about the Tibetan situation and was lucky enough to see the Dali Lama speak at Indiana University.

When my alarm went off that morning at 7:15am it felt pretty harsh. Getting to see the monks blessing the waters was worth it though.
