While in NYC I got to visit the MOMA, The Museum of Modern Art. I love the MOMA so much! This is the second time I’ve been; Thebes and I were there back in ’99. There was so much inspiration everywhere!
My friend Melanie works nearby and was able to get me in free! Plus my pass got me into several members preview exhibits. One was an exhibit of abstract art. In the past I was never into abstract art. But that day it really inspired me. I was in the right frame of mind to finally commune with abstract art.

Melanie had to work Friday so I spent the day at the museum. There was so much beauty and creativity everywhere! I was crying I was so moved by all that art. At first I felt weird about that but then thought surely I’m not the only one who’s felt that way.
Here’s some pieces that moved me.
Adolph Gottlieb
Man Looking at Woman

Bradley Walker Tomlin
Number 9: In Praise of Gertrude Stein

David Smith
Australia

Jackson Pollock
Full Fathom Five

Photographs of Pollock’s work just aren’t the same. Standing right in front of his art was incredibly moving. The piece above had such texture-there were nails, coins, paint caps and a key in the painting.
This next picture was inspired by Doug Stanhope. The painting is
Roy Lichtenstein
Drowning Girl

Rene Magritte
The False Mirror

This painting reminds me of some of my spiritual moments.
Pablo Picasso
Girl before a Mirror

When I saw the Picasso I really started crying. I was just bursting with happiness! This is my favorite Picasso and there it was before me.
Meret Oppenheim
Object

Oh this piece is so awesome! I’m getting inspired all over again.
Louise Nevelson
Sky Cathedral

This reminded me of Abbey so much. It also reminds me of her bookcase.
Vladimir Baranoff-Rossine
Symphony Number 1

Ad Reinhardt
Abstract Painting

This painting blew my mind. At first it looked just like a plain black canvas. But I figured there was more to it so sat down on a bench and stared at it for several minutes. Slowly my eyes adjusted and I started seeing several different blacks, purples and reds. Freaking amazing!!! There’s a much better photo of this painting on MOMA’s site.
Vincent van Gogh
The Starry Night
Such a classic.

Edvard Munch
The Storm

This was a moody painting that I could relate to.
Claude Monet
Water Lilies

The grand scale of Monet’s paintings is mind blowing. So beautiful.
Anna Atkins
Polypodium Phegopteris

A cyanotype! After the Green Man I have a renewed interest in them.
Oh I loved my NYC visit so much! I’m getting all excited again just blogging about it. More pics to come.
