Peaceful Skies Coalition

Gorge Bridge

Peaceful Skies is a grass roots group dedicated to keeping the airspace above us free and safe from military intrusion.

We are currently organizing against the Low Altitude Tactical Navigation (LATN) planned by Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. Their aim is to have low level flyovers (as low as 200′) at night over wilderness and populated rural areas in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.

Although our initial imperative is concerning New Mexico & Colorado, we welcome all peaceful people to start their own chapter of Peaceful Skies locally.

You can read Taos News stories about this here and here.

The Portal figure

An integral part of The Portal piece is a small figure going into the ice waterfall. I needle felted a small figure to show the scale of the waterfall. It’s so huge in real life!

The Portal

The I shaped it more and added hair.

The Portal

The Portal is opening up and the figure is entering into it. Where is she going? For me, she’s going back to Source, back to the Divine, becoming one with the Goddess. But I also want the observer to decide where she’s going.

Tonight was the Taos Fall Arts Festival! Abbey and Grant went with me and we had a blast. Post about that soon.

The Portal frame

As I was making more progress on The Portal I realized it needed a frame. My friend Floyd, owner of Des Montes Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden, introduced me to local woodworker Jim. He made me this beautiful custom frame:

It’s just stunning! He did an amazing job. I did a trial fitting last night and The Portal looks wonderful in it.

I’m getting so close to finishing this piece. It feels really good to be at this point.

More grocery bags

I sewed up some more bags for my friend Helen:

These are to promote her farm Lady Bug Farms.

Everything but the sewing machine thread is recycled. I utilized the pockets on the jeans this time.

Making the lady bug is my favorite part.
