Round two…ugh

My Klaralund sleeves idea was a total bust. I finished both sleeves, sewed them on and faced another sweater failure. The sleeves just fell off my shoulders. Dammit!!!

What to do? I took the sleeves off yet again and assessed the situation. I had a knit body and two sleeves. An idea began to form. Grabbing Knitting Without Tears read the directions for a seamless sweater. Now I have all three pieces on one needle and am working on the yoke.

Noro striped sweater

If the logic of Elizabeth Zimmerman can’t save this sweater I don’t know what will.

Making Cyanotypes

For my Green Man eyes I recruited Thebes photography skills. Here’s a test Cyanotype being made in the sun:

Thebes in black

Thebes eventually made the prints indoors using a small tanning light. The light was super bright so he had to wear dark sunglasses. Here’s my man in black:

Spinning Chaos Yarn

I’ve been saving up yarn and fleece scraps for about a year. Spinning up this yarn is quite messy.

Spinning Chaos Yarn

While spinning bits of yarn often fly up in to the air. Prana seems entertained by it.

So far I have about eighty yards and the bag is still half full. I hope I have enough for a funky bag.

Boxing up the mother piece

My Green Man is hanging on the wall but the mother piece is going into storage. Our friend Bert gave me some refrigerator shipping cardboard. It’s heavy duty and made a great box.

I was emotionally ok boxing it up. Though I was struck by how it seemed like I was making a coffin for the piece. Perhaps this means I’m burying the issue?

mother art piece

The day before the Beyond The Fringe opening Thebes and I drove to the gallery to drop off my art. I was holding the mother piece with the nails facing away and was staring at the back. As Thebes drove I noticed two hairs. Both were underneath my signature. One was sealed to the wood underneath the polyurethane coating. The other was barely attached at one end and dangled in front of my face all the way to the gallery.

Both of them were my mother’s hairs.

I coated the piece outside. How did my mother’s hair manage to get onto the back? It seems magical. She signed it with me. I got healing from the project and hope that she did too.

Gorge walk

Last month I wanted to take Sieben somewhere new. There’s a nice trail by the Rio Grande Gorge rest area. Here’s a classic shot:

Sieben strikes a pose:

On the walk we encountered some tourists who complimented Sieben on his handsomeness. That’s my boy!

There was some spring snow in the Gorge.

We had a fun walk. Then we drove to the Taos Cow and shared a sandwich and chips.

Twilight vs Tubey: The rematch

I’ve finally taken Tubey out of time out. I actually started this sweater last April! It’s time to finish.

Noro Tubey

I got the idea for the sleeves from the Klaralund sweater from the Noro: Knit 40 Fabulous Designs book. But I’m changing it up and using the rib pattern on the sleeves.

So far it looks good. Let’s hope so. Because last time Tubey kicked my ass. I love this yarn though and am determined to make a sweater out of it.

Blanket progress

The Noro blanket is a relaxing knit. Progress is slow but steady.

Noro blanket

Instead of one large square I’m making several small ones. I don’t think I have enough of this Noro colorway so I’m going to use a gray or black yarn for a border.

This is a great pattern. Easy to memorize and mellow.

A cuddly bunny

My friend Sera’s little girl recently was diagnosed with Leukemia. She’s currently in the hospital getting chemotherapy. I made her a little bunny to cuddle.

square bunny

This is a neat pattern. You make a square and then fold it to make the bunny body. The ears are added on later.

Prana helped out as usual.

I used some stuffing for the tail and embroidered some pink eyes.

It seems like a good size for a two year old.

This was a quick knit. It took me three days. It could be cranked out in a day if needed. The bunny has been mailed off and hopefully will provide Sera’s daughter some comfort.

Helen’s Snood

I finished Helen’s scarf. I’ve been told that these scarf/hoods are called Snoods so I’m renaming it.

Helen's Snood

She came to the Beyond The Fringe opening where I gave it to her:

Doesn’t she look cute!

She likes it and it fits great. A side view:
