Merce will be selling her yarn and felt art at this year’s Taos Wool Fest. Her work is called Vortex Spinning. Neat eh? Here’s some pictures of her creative handspun:

And here’s an example of her felt art.

She’ll be in Booth #26 with Abbey.

Abbey is selling some cool stuff at this year’s Taos Wool Fest. She calls her work “Ab-Original Designs” which is super groovy.

For Thebes’ sweater I’ve decided to make the Hudson hoodie out of the Noro Knits book. I’m using Malabrigo in the Vaa colorway.

I’m making some alterations. I’ve decided to knit it in the round. Thebes asked for a kangaroo pouch on the front and for it to only zip 1/3 of the way down. So far, so good.
This is the first time I’ve worked with Malabrigo. It’s super soft and this colorway is gorgeous. I may have to make myself a Malabrigo sweater next.
I got this idea from a post on Craft Stylish. I’m collecting sweaters, fleeces and sweatshirts from the local free pile. I’m cutting them into strips and crocheting an oval.
Here’s the bed so far:

That little pink spot is part of the tag from a fleece hoodie.
I’m not sure if it’s going to be thick enough. I may make this the top, stuff it and use denim as the bottom layer.
Remember the bag of fleece I washed at Merce’s place?

I’ve started to spin it up.

It has so much vegetable matter! I’m fluffing it by hand, running it through the drum carder three times and lots of it flies off during spinning. And there’s still veggie matter in the single. I’m hoping more comes off during plying.
I’ve decided to do a woven piece for next year’s Beyond The Fringe art show. This will be a space piece and I’m taking inspiration from the Hubble Telescope images.
I’m making this project long so warping it was tedious. There was tangle after tangle as I tried to wrap it up. Here’s an in process pic:

I had worked most of the tangles out but still had some in the middle. I wonder if it’ll get less troublesome with practice.
The warp yarn is Knit Picks Shimmer in the Turquoise Splendor. It’s 70% baby alpaca and 30% silk. The skein was 440 yards of lace weight and I used almost all of it. Abbey gave it to me.
Here’s the loom all warped up and ready for weaving:

The woven part will be the background-the universe or space if you will. Then I’ll embroidery or needle felt the Goddess creating planets, stars, moons and such. I’ve always thought the Big Bang was a spiritual act and am using that notion for inspiration as well.
My lace socks are coming along. I put the first sock on stitch holders and started the second one from the other end of the yarn cake.

I’m going to make them as tall as I can.
Thebes’s Noro sweater has been frogged. The squares puckered too much when seamed together. Then I tried to do something crazy where I had a bunch of little Noro balls and knit all the squares in a round. That was a tangled mess. It was just a world of wrong.
So I frogged it and decided to make a blanket. I found the Ten Stitch Blanket pattern on Ravelry.

It’s a nice, relaxed pattern and shows off the Noro colors beautifully.
For Thebes’s sweater I’ve switched to a new yarn and pattern. I’ll blog about it as soon as I get enough on the needles for a pic.
