Knitting progress

This summer is a busy one. Our friend Grant is visiting and we’re working on outdoor projects. I haven’t had much time for knitting but have made some progress.

Here’s my green shrimp socks.

This yarn is so awesome. I recently bought another ball of Tofutti in a variegated brown.

Thebes’s Noro sweater is coming along. The squares make a great car project.

I’m making another Che purse.

A woman saw me with my Che purse in a restaurant and asked if she could buy one from me. I said sure so now I have Che 2.0 on the needles. This time I’m knitting the purse body in the round which is much better.

Playing in the Rio Grande River

Thebes had a dentist appointment the other day. We took Sieben along and took him down to the river. Here’s Sieben walking down the trail:

We had so much fun!

I’d throw up water and Sieben would catch it in his mouth. So cute.

Lots of flowers are in bloom.

He was so happy on our little adventure.

I took along Tubey for my car knitting:

My mother’s hair

The last crochet baby items I frogged were a little outfit.

mother art piece

Pretty cute eh? I’m saving three other pieces as my mementos. These pieces felt like the ones I should frog.

Here’s the back. My mother’s crochet is so neat and tidy.

The hat was still tied when I took it out of the box. Was my mother the last one to tie it? Maybe.

They booties were tough to frog. It was hard for me to find the ending row.

While frogging I found something completely unexpected-my mother’s hair.

I don’t know why it surprised me. My hair gets into everything I knit. So of course my mother’s hair got into the baby clothes she made me. I found several hairs.

Frogging these pieces made me cry hard. In a way I’m embracing my mother again. She was an emotionally withdrawn mother. Hugs were seldom with her. And yet it felt like I was close to her again, with her hair in my hand like that.

I collected the hairs and needle felted them into the womb.

Here’s the jacket half frogged:

I’m going to use this yarn in the mother piece but I’m not quite sure how.

Purple churro fleece

I’ve spun up the last of my fleece from last year’s wool fest.

purple churro fleece

I decided to challenge myself by spinning this yarn as thin as I could. I made this fleece into two ply yarn.

I made 330 yards.

I’m not sure what to make with it. But it’s a good addition to the stash.
