Taos Wool Fest and new yarn

October 11th, 2008

Laura took some good pics at the Taos Wool Festival and said I could post them here.

Taos Wool Festival

This was our Ravelry meet up spot. Tara painted a great banner for us. Tara, her husband David, Meredith and Mary-Heather are in the above photo.

Speaking of Mary-Heather, Sunday was her birthday and she celebrated at the Wool Fest.

Speaking of Laura, she bought a spindle and started spinning.

She’s a natural! Check out her very first skein:

There was so much gorgeous yarn at the Wool Fest. I got a few things.

Yarn from Taos Wool Festival

I got three skeins of Brooks Farm Mas Acero.

This is a wool, silk, viscose blend. I’m thinking of making a light sweater with it.

Thebes asked if I’d make him some kilt hose out of this yarn:

It’s also from Brooks Farm. It’s called Acero and is another wool, silk, viscose mix.

I wore my winter Freedom Skirt to the Wool Fest. I bought the yarn from Lonesome Stone last year and went to their booth to show off my skirt. The women there loved it which made me smile. Their booth was again one of my favorites and I had to buy some more yarn from them.

This is an alpaca, wool blend that will soon be made into Knucks. I’m looking forward to working with alpaca. Their yarn smells so good! I swear I get a knitter’s high every time I sniff it. I told the ladies at the booth they should figure out a way to make yarn incense which made them laugh.

Abbey wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t come to the Wool Fest Sunday. Saturday she was helping Merce at her booth so she didn’t get to yarn shop much. I bought her this as a surprise gift:

While hanging out at the Ravelry group I saw a woman come up with a container of yarn. She asked if it was ok to drop off some free yarn. Of course we said yes! You should have seen the knitters swoop down on the samples of her sock yarn. It’s pretty stuff:

I think I’ll use it as accents in a future project. You can check out more of her yarn at her Etsy shop The YoYo.

I also bought some fiber for spinning which I’ll save for another post.

[…] This yarn is from Brook’s Farm that I bought at last year’s Wool Fest. Thebes picked out the colorway. The yarn is a wool/silk/viscose mix in a 60/20/20% combination. It was a bit slippery to knit with but after awhile I got used to it. […]
