Need a quick gift but don’t want to be bored by endless inches of ribbing? Try my Simple Cable Scarf. I’m sure there’s a ton of similar scarf patterns one out there. But I wanted to challenge myself to write a pattern so this one is my own.
Materials
Stash yarn-the more you have the longer the scarf
I used:
2 skeins Knit Picks Merino Style in Maple Leaf colorway
1 skein Knit Picks Merino Style in Crocus colorway
Needles
Needles-use whatever you like to get the gauge you like
Gauge
Customized. Depends on the yarn you choose.
Pattern
Cast on 30 stitches
Knit four rows of garter stitch
Begin cable pattern
Cable pattern
The cable pattern consists of four rows.
Abbreviations:
4FC- slip two stitches onto cable, hold in front, k2, k2 from cable
4BC- slip two stitches onto cable, hold in back, k2, k2 from cable
First Row
(I put spaces so you can read it better.)
KK KKP 4FC PKKP 4BC PKKP 4FC PKK KK
Second Row
KK knit the knits, purl the purls KK
Third Row
KK knit the knits, purl the purls KK
Fourth Row
KK knit the knits, purl the purls KK
Repeat four rows until you get length you’d like.
End on first row of cable pattern so both ends will match. I didn’t do that in my scarf and though not a big deal you can still tell below.

I put markers on each side of the cables so I wouldn’t have to count stitches.
Fringe
Put 28 pieces of fringe on ends. Pull on knots to secure and then trim bottoms to even them up.

Finishing
Block scarf to make cables pop out. Cat is optional.

Harry Potteresque Details
Knit seven sets of the cable pattern in red, knit four sets of the cable pattern in yellow. Repeat until you get the length you desire, ending with seven sets in red.
For fringe put four fringe of red, 2 fringe of yellow alternating, ending in red.
