More Knucks

I finished the first Knuck for Thebes and it fits! I’ll be starting the second one soon.

Thebes' Knucks

Earlier this month I was shopping for a dress for Abbey’s wedding and stopped in Weaving Southwest. They were having a sale on roving. I bought some to start my return to spinning on my yet to be photographed spindles.

Roving

On the way back to the car I realized I didn’t have my bag with my newly bought dress! Thebes and I had been playing tourist so we had to go back to several art galleries to look for my bag. Where was it? At Weaving Southwest right by the roving.

Since we were back at the store I bought a book they had featured. It’s called
The Tooth of Time and the store is featured in the story. I’m a little geeked out to be reading a book that features the town I live in.

Abbey and I have talked about the Samus sweater. I’m finishing the Knucks and she’s finishing a pair of socks before we begin our knitalong.

Potter scarf complete

When you don’t celebrate Christmas sometimes funny things happen. You go to a store, pull on the door and are confused on why it’s not open when it’s the middle of the day. Or you try to call customer service during business hours and get annoyed when you get a recorded message.

Or like me you realize around 10pm Monday that you better block that knitted present to mail it out in time for Christmas. Yup, with sudden alarm this is what happened to me. So I got myself to work.

Prana helped me get it pinned to the towel.

Now around 1am I realize it’s not going to dry fast. So I laid it in front of the heater and rotated it periodically. The next morning it was slightly damp but another session in front of the heater did the trick.

It’s about 64″ long and 4 1/2″ wide.

Sieben was very good. He came up to sniff it and then let it be.

Then I packed it up and shipped it out UPS. It should arrive Friday. I got it out with a few days to spare. Woot!

Scarf and icicles

I’ve been knitting away on my Potter scarf.

The pattern is a four row repeat and is easy memorizable. I’m still not thrilled by the colors but the cables keep it interesting. I’ve told myself I’m going to mail this out by the 20th so I’m trying to knit on it as much as I can.

We’ve had a ton of snow lately. Prana is pretending to be an inside house kitty so I have no new pics of him outside. Sieben however is in heaven. He runs all over and is so happy playing in the snow. He’s recently discovered icicles and likes to chew on them as if they’re bones.

I’ve recently gotten some spinning tools and roving. W00t! (Got to put the word of the year to use eh?)

Knucks and Potter Scarf

Knucks for Thebes

I’ve started the Knucks for Thebes. He picked out a cool yarn color. I’m using my new bamboo needles for them and wow can I tell the difference. Though the dp needles I got off Ebay were cheap they’re not nearly as nice. While I like how they’re turning out I feel I’m making slow progress. As soon as the thumb gets added on the knucks start to fly.

I’ve started my other gift, a Christmas gift for a friend’s son.

He wants to be in Gryffindor so I went with red and yellow. The colors are brighter than I thought they’d be. But since it’s for a 9 year old boy I’m thinking it will be fine. The pattern is my own. I’m pretty excited by this since it’s my first cable pattern. When I’m done I’ll post directions.

A change in sweater plans

I like the Mariah sweater but have decided against knitting it. The more research I did, the more I realized I’d have to tweak the pattern. It got to the point where I had so many adjustments I was considering making a whole new sweater using the Elizabeth Zimmerman percentage method. While doing a EZ sweater is a knitting goal of mine I don’t want to start that project just yet.

So Abbey and I looked on Knitty and decided to knit the Samus sweater instead:

Thankfully the gauge is the same so I can use my purple yarn. There’s no hood but the cable is cool and I like that it zips up.

Have I started it? Erm…no. It’s been super cold here so I’m starting a pair of Knucks for Thebes. I’m also working on a Christmas scarf for a friend’s son. After those two are done I can start on Samus. And continue working on Thebes’ kilt hose. Suddenly I have a ton of knitting projects in the works!
