Ogeeeeeeee!

Ogee Lace Skirt

Ogee is done and I love it!

Surprisingly even though I used different yarn, smaller needles and altered the pattern somewhat the dimensions turned out to match the ones in the pattern.

I’ll definately be wearing Ogee over skirts and pants this fall. The initial five rows were hard. After I made it through those initial rows the pattern became easier.

Ogee really opened up during blocking. This must be the magic of lace blocking that I’ve heard other knitters speak of.

Socks and squares

I’ve been swinging a framing hammer and pounding 16 penny nails lately. My wrists have been hurting so knitting progress has been slow. I’m up the the ribbing on the orange yellow sock.

My granny square project is coming along. A lot of my stash yarn is now used up.

However, the squares don’t all match because of the different yarn thicknesses. But if I’m making a huge afghan that should be ok right? I’ve been tempted lately to buy several balls of yarn to make an afghan with a certain pattern-maybe ripple stitch?

Ravelry

Ravelry

I got my invite to Ravelry a few weeks ago. You can find me there by searching for Twilight. I put up a few projects but I’m mostly using Ravelry to look at what everyone else is knitting. There are so many things I want to knit!

Ogee Preblocked

Ogee skirt

I plan to block Ogee next week. The I-cord edging turned out great. I like it as a bind off option.

I used this great device to keep track of where I was in the pattern. It’s called a “Peg-It” Knitting Counter and is made by Susan Bates. Abbey gave it to me. She found it at a thrift store. I’d never seen one before but it is so useful. It’s my favorite new knitting accessory.

A cat bed for Prana

Ogee is done but not yet blocked. Pictures will be posted soon.

For my new project I’m making a cat bed for Prana. I’m using the Kitty Pi pattern from Wendy. This yarn is from a thrift sweater so it’s another Knit from your stash Project.

Prana's cat bed

I did a felt swatch and this yarn doesn’t felt much. That being the case I’m knitting this bed on smaller needles so the stitches are pretty tight. I like the tweed look of the yarn:

Prana doesn’t realize it’s for him yet. But I’ve made a cat bed and toys for him before and when he does realize it’s for him he gets so excited and extra loving.

I took this picture of him the other day. Every cat mom thinks her cat is adorable and I’m no exception. My Prana is such a handsome boy.

Ogee wrap

I’m on my last repeat of Ogee. It’s one more repeat than the pattern calls for since I’m making it slightly different. With blocking the wrap should just touch my knees.

I have discovered a helpful friend in the pattern-the wonderful purl stitch. If I have to put Ogee down mid row I do so after I’ve done a purl stitch. The purl stitches stick out and can easily tell you where you are in the pattern. I am starting to think of the pattern in what I have to do between purl stitches.

The i-cord edging has me a bit confused. It looks all wonky but I’m hoping it will improve after blocking.

Orange yellow socks

My latest sock is turning out great. I love this yarn. This is supposed to be my simple project to work on when I need breaks from Ogee. There’s a temptation to do something more complex than ribbing but I’m resisting. This is supposed to be a relaxing project. But then I think-”oh maybe a few cables wouldn’t that look cool”. No, no, no. I must stick to ribbing.

New socks started

Orange yellow sock

Wow am I loving this new yarn! Orange and yellow doesn’t look good on me so I rarely wear it. That’s why I chose this yarn. The two colors are blended in with earth tones so it’s not as glaring. Plus they’ll be all the way down on my feet so the mismatch to my skin won’t be so obvious.

I would have gotten more done but the toe took me three times to knit correctly. First time I was talking on the phone, second time I was listening to an audiobook. I didn’t think it would be a problem but I forgot some yarnovers which throws the whole toe off. The third time I had no distractions and got it right. Now that I’m on the stockinette I can knit the sock while talking on the phone or listening to audiobooks or podcasts. Here’s Mr. Penguin modeling it:

I’m using the techniques from the book Simple Socks which I cannot recommend highly enough. This book rocks!
