Two Finished Arwens

Thebes took pictures of Abbey and I in our Arwen sweaters. We met at Wired, one of the coolest coffee shops in town.

I’m so happy with the way Arwen turned out. Pre-blocking the sleeves were perfect. Post blocking they had stretched about an inch. I’m not reblocking it because it’s only an inch. Since I redid the sleeve seams there is no tightness. The sweater feels really good to wear.

New Projects

My Arwen cardigan is finished and is currently blocking. Pictures to follow soon. I recently discovered there was a Cardigan for Arwen KAL. There’s some nice variations over there.

My Knitty Knucks are coming along. I’ve had to rip back the ribbing though because it was too loose. I’m going to do it one needle size smaller to get a closer fit.

Abbey and I are going to do another knit along. This time we’re going to make the Ogee Lace Skirt from the Summer 2007 issue of Interweave Knits.

I’m going to make it out of some stash yarn. I have a few balls of this pretty purple yarn. I weighed it out and it looks like I’ll have just enough.

Reseaming

I finished my sweater and tried it on. While it technically fits the sleeves were a bit tight and the seam looked poofy. For awhile I debated leaving it as is-after all it did fit. But I’m taking out the seams now. The tight sleeves irked me so I decided to redo them. I’m reseaming with a one stitch seam allowance now and the seams are turning out much better. One sleeve is finished and it fits much better. In the picture below the top seam is the old version and the bottom seam is the new version.

I’ve been practicing using the macro feature on my camera and got this cute picture of Prana.

This is actually a weed I need to rip up since its leaves have little prickles all over them. But the flowers are pretty.

Sweater and mud

I’m finished with the hood and am in the midst of seaming the sweater together. Abbey has finished hers and it looks gorgeous. I’ll be done soon and we’ll take pictures together when we get together for knitting next. Here’s the last picture I took of the hood.

The other day me, Thebes, Abbey and her hubby went to Ojo Caliente. It’s one of my favorite hot springs spa. Now that it’s summer they have the mud pool open. You smother yourself in mud, let it dry and then wash off. The mud makes your skin very soft. Here’s a picture from last summer with me enjoying the mud at Ojo.

Recycled sculpture and fashion

I dropped off recycling the other day and found two broken rice steamers in the tin area. They looked so full of potential. I brought them home and took them apart with a pair of needle nose pliers.

There’s a recycled art show where I live and I’m thinking of making a sculpture with the pieces. However, there’s also a recycled fashion show and I’m leaning towards making something for that instead. That’s more fun. Years ago, I created an outfit made out of telephone wires. It turned out super groovy!

I crocheted a bikini top and miniskirt. For my hair I put wires in my many braids and attached phone parts to the braids as well. In Santa Fe there was also a recycled fashion show and I won first prize for this outfit. I was overjoyed!

Onto the sleeve!

I finished the left side of the Aran sweater and have started the right side. It’s going faster now since I’m familiar with the pattern. I’m up to the sleeve now!

The end is in site and I’m excited. Most of my time has spent on the sweater so I haven’t gotten far on the Knitty Knucks. Working the pattern has been fun so far.

Spring has sprung around these parts and many desert flowers are in bloom. The beauty of the Southwest sometimes takes my breath away. First here’s a prickly pear cactus flower with a cicada shell nearby.

I’m not sure what these flowers are called but they’re pretty.

Today I put in my contacts. It’s been awhile since I’ve worn them and it’s so nice to go without glasses again.

Socks and Knucks

Thanks for the e-hugs fellow crafters. I love this community.

Here’s another shot of the bamboo socks.

Now that the socks are done I’m starting a new project. I’m making Knitty’s Knucks.

This pattern is so adorable! Guess what I’m going to embroider? As I was reading the pattern I realized with delight that Twilight is exactly eight letters long. Putting one’s name on the gloves seems so geeky/retro/cool I’ve got to do it. I’m using yarn from my stash. This Knit From Your Stash idea is a great motivator. This is left over yarn from the Rowan Hike sweater I made for Thebes. I’m working on the half fingers now.

Things are going great so far. The fingers are fun to knit and are so quick to make.
